Baseball International

My first international baseball trip was to the Czech Republic with this organization.  John Gilmore has taken us around the world (literally), retracing the steps of the Baseball Tour to End all Tours of 1913-1914. Some of the other places BBI has gone include Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Australia, Argentina, Japan and China, to name a few.  The tours include a mix of playing baseball and sightseeing.  He also has tournaments in Florida every January.

Play at the Plate

Scott Green (Greenie) has had some awesome tournaments in major league ballparks!  We've had the honor of playing in MLB parks like Progressive Field (Indians), PNC Park (Pirates) and Wrigley Field (Cubs) in the summer of 2010!  Scott also has his signature spring tourney every April at Roger Dean Stadium in Florida as well as the Pirate City Classic(Pirates Spring Training Facility) in Bradenton.

Fellow O's campers Jack Kelly, Steve Murfin and Bob Moore have two tourneys in Florida at PIrate City in Bradenton, typically one in the fall and one in the winter.  Most of the guys are comprised of Orioles Fantasy Campers but there is a mix of talent from across the country. They have an former Oriole or two on hand as well as trainers to ice you down and put you back together so that you can play the next day.

ALS, Houston Chapter (Lou Gehrig's Disease)
http://www.alsa-houston.org

Thanks to the efforts of Linda Richardson, President of the Houston Chapter of ALS, and her staff and volunteers, people get the help and comfort they need.  ALS has no cure and there hasn't been much progress in the last 70 or years since the ALS death of N.Y.Yankee great Lou Gehrig.  The pharmaceutical companies won't spend the money necessary on research since they say there's not a "pay day".  It's a slow deterioration of the body and a terrible way to go.  In 2010, the first annual Eli Barken Midnight Madness Charity Marathon Baseball Game benefits ALS sufferer Bobby Vincent of Tomball, TX; all net proceeds will go directly to Bobby and his family to help with medical and living expenses.  Someday, we hope to Strike Out ALS!

Life is one long weekend, PLAY BASEBALL!!!   And Give Back!!!
